Braving the swim wear, a review: Kmart
September 30th 2007 01:13
I went into Kmart on Thursday night with low expectations. They've always disappointed me for clothes and accessories, in fact, the only good things I've gotten from there are cheap makeup and underpants. But I was pleasantly surprised when it came to the swim wear, and glad to have my preconceptions mostly challenged.
There was a great deal of swim wear on on offer, in a range of colours and styles. The predominant style would have to be the tankini, which I lovelovelove. I could have done with a little more support in the bust area, as gravity ain't exactly cutting it anymore, but that's a minor complaint.
I grabbed some one pieces to try on, as I have far too many tankinis already and mum went and looked for herself for some togs. She finally managed to find a pair she liked and we went and tried them on.
My plain black one pieces (ok, yes, I already have one, but I totally needed another. For er .. excerise and stuff - yes, that's it!) were all average to blah. I wasn't really fussed on them and the fit wasn't working for me - as I've mentioned before, I'm two different sizes, so the tops were too big when the bottoms fit, and vice versa. I did manage to try on (and not buy - I'm not exactly sure why, hrrmmm ...) a bright aqua and brownish one piece, that was supposed to 'slim me down'. I honestly didn't notice much difference, but I guess if you want 'slimming' togs, Kmart would be a cheaper place to go than the big department stores. Around $50 compared to up to $200 for one of those 'miracle suits.'
Mum loved her one piece she tried on - it's black, with a floral background and a little skirt. Very retro and it suits her fantastically. It appears what she needed on her apple shape was a little skirt, for a balancer and it it was all good. She bought them, with a promise to come swimming with me, and even better? They were on sale, yay!
It wasn't all sunshine and roses however. I hate to end on a down note, but I'm going to do it anyway. You know that variety of cuts, colours and styles of togs that I mentioned before? Yeah, only if you're no bigger than an 18. Kmart does go to a 26, but they only seem to go to a 26 in the style my mother tried on. Now, she loves that particular style of swim wear anyway, so she was fine, but if you're looking at a cute tankini, a racer-back one piece for exercise, or even a plain, non-floral skirt covered one piece, you've got no luck at Kmart.
Maybe there will be some luck at Myer though. I'll have to try them and see. 'Til Thursday!

Yes, I've also been impressed with KMart's range of swimwear and clothes in general. They have a lot of choice at such good prices.

No More Mumus
I'll admit, I've ranted and raved (a lot!) about Kmart's clothing, which I just do not enjoy at all, but they're usually ok for togs, and I love buying my undies and moisturiser (which is super cheap and the only place that seems to carry it) there.
