Ruffles and Bows

July 5th 2008 23:40
I didn't think I was going to have any luck at any of the stores when looking this week. Barely anyone had anything resembling ruffles or bows. My Size had a parka-type coat that was sorta ruffly around the cuffs, Target and Big W had a few pussy bow tops in floral prints, but that was basically it.

Until I hit Myer.

Oh my god, Myer had so much in the way of ruffles and bows and sometimes ruffles AND bows, I was a little overwhelmed. Yay Myer.

Now, I know ruffles and/or bows on shirts can be a little much on those of you who have big boobs, so if that's the case, perhaps you could stick to just a slight pussy bow or wear your ruffles on the bottom, if you want. For those of us not blessed (or cursed, depending on how you see it, of course) with boobs, ruffles and bows on the top are great!

Estelle (they so need a website) had the most out of any of the brands at Myer. Like I've said before, it's geared towards a younger consumer and is rather pricy. The sizes range from 16-24, but they are a smaller make, which is a little disappointing. Here's a couple of examples of the numerous things they had (some on sale!). This white business shirt that had a pussy bow and these little ruffles going down the buttons. They also had this hot, Roland Mouret-esque dress in a tweed print, scoop neck and little black ruffles on the shoulders (sale!). Very sexy librarian. And lastly, my wonderful, gorgeous coat with the ruffly drawstring collar. Sigh. On sale. But still too expensive for this exceptionally poor uni student. Someone needs to buy it and take a photo of it so I can drool with complete and utter envy. Sob.

Jane Lamerton and Basque usually are geared towards a more conservative, sophisticated consumer, with most of their clothing on offer being business-like and no nonsense. They're no different at the moment, with a few shirts with ruffles and some nice silky pussy bow blouses in both brands.

Dossier Woman and Susan Blake were two brands that surprised me. I normally find them a little matronly and boring, there's too much sequined crap and mumu-ish style dresses for me to take them seriously as stylish clothing for plus sized women. But both brands had some pretty nice shirts with ruffles on them. Dossier Woman had this plum coloured shirt in a crinkly satin material that I rather liked. Some of the clothing in both brands still looks a little like a bedspread, but I think they're slowly getting there.

Nouveau ... something was another brand that is either somewhat new to Myer, or I've just never noticed it before (probably never noticed it before). They had a nice white (again with the white!) shirt with ruffles on it.

Lastly, if you don't like any of these and want your own bows, there are many accessory sales on at the moment, where you could buy a scarf and experiement with ways to tie it into a bow. Or hit up some op shops (that;s where I usually get all my scarves) for some bargains. There are numerous tutorials out there on numerous websites and blogs. From a super quick skim, I found this (scroll down), which looks pretty simple to do. I think even I could do it!

thanks for the heads up on Myer.

I've found plus style shopping really blah of late.

Hope you don't mind, I've added you to my blogroll as I find your blog a good read
