Shopping for your shape

I have often lamented the lack of clothing designed to a person's shape, rather than their size. It appears that a majority of designers out there designing clothes for plus-sized women assume that we are all tall, have big boobs (hah, I wish!) and are hourglass shaped.
While this may be true for some of us, it is definitely not true for the rest. I'll use two examples right away.
Myself? I'm of average height and a classic pear shape. I carry everything in my hips and thighs. This can make dress shopping especially difficult.
My mother? Tall-ish and a classic apple shape. Everything is carried in her stomach and she has thin, shapely legs. This makes it difficult for her to find jeans.
One American website catering to plus-sized women has challenged this size and shape issue with their rather genius My Shape section. Igigi is a store that I wish we had over here, or, if it were possible, could ship over to Australia. They have the chart with the possible shapes of women, with funky drawings depicting the shapes. The shape calculator is there to help you decide what shape you are, and then the fun part comes in. Shopping for your shape! They have a whole bunch of clothes that would work on your shape and some of them are pretty decent suggestions. Of course, they're not cheap, which is a downside. But if I could justify the prices, as well as the possible prices for international shipping, then I would be all over that.
From having a quick glance through according to my shape (triangle), I can see a fair range of wrap dresses, which I love, and pretty evening gowns, which I'd never get a chance to wear, but I could totally pretend to swan around in while cleaning the house or something.
For anyone who has used this service and successfully bought clothing from here, what are your experiences? Good, bad, eh? Let me know.
