Silks, cotton and jersey
February 14th 2010 06:10
With one month of summer left, technically (although it will probably still feel like summer until April, knowing this state), a great deal of the summer trends and likes for me are on sale already, or have been for a while.
Silky, cotton and jersey based fabrics to wear in summer are a total godsend. They feel so nice and cool to wear against hot, sweaty skin. They're relatively easy to keep clean (RELATIVELY. I'm gonna need to take my new purple silk/jersey tank dress to the drycleaners, I cannot get the ... grease? stains out. I'm gonna cry), and feel effortless and expensive, even when they're not.
Unfortunately, not a lot of these fabrics to be found in store at plus sizes right now. Myer has a nice silk tunic top (cream, grey and navy, sort of paint splashed. I'm seeing this type of print around a lot lately) in the Estelle brand, but other than that, not a lot. SARA has the usual jersey style cotton tees, as do My Size, but I think they're more part of a very casual outfit, than one to go out in.
So, I search online.
These vests from New Look come in a cotton blend (sigh), but are great summer staples.
This big bow striped skirt also from New Look is mostly cotton and adorable.
For when it gets a smidge cooler, this 100% cotton cardigan from New Look is a good bargain.
For more of a (huge) splurge, Saks Fifth Avenue ship to Australia. The Amanda Uprichard zip silky dress is a favourite of mine.
